Facebook Ads Brings Back Dynamic UTM Tagging...With A Few Constraints
Just stumbled upon Dynamic Tagging feature in Ad Manager today. Previously, it was possible to use dynamic parameters to tag your Facebook campaigns. This article here contains the list of all {{field names}} that were previously available for use.

It also has a lot of comments from users reporting about it not working [since May, also experienced it firsthand].
As Facebook recommends running mixed placements [FB + IG in same ad], the field for utm_source could populate values such as fb, ig, msg, an [audience network]. You could then go into Custom Channel Definition in GA and then define this as Social [if your medium was cpc/cpv/cpe/cpm/cpl etc].
could also pull in the placement breakdown from Ad Manager report and have it added to your utm tag [perhaps, as utm_content].
Well, it stopped working sometime around May, 2018. So what’s in the new dynamic utm tagging?

Placement and site source fields has been disabled. You can use of the above bullets to create your source/medium/content/campaign parameters at the ad level.
Note: Campaign name can be changed in Ad Manager but the dynamic parameter will pick up the first name that was given.
